The client wanted to liven up this room with a fresh coat of paint, and took it a step further with the creative idea to put in a dark blue accent wall, which stands out beautifully and gives the room some more character.
As you can see, the walls have been vandalized by some child graffiti artists. This is easily remedied with some primer to help ensure the marker/pencil doesn’t show up at all. In addition, imperfections in the wall were lightly plastered, sanded, and spot-primed twice to maintain consistency with the rest of the wall texture.
Because the accent blue colour is so dark and rich, a special tinted primer was require in order to achieve “true colour”. Only one coat of tinted primer is necessary. The rest of the walls took a fresh light grey paint, which made a nice contrast with the dark blue. It reminded me a lot of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and others have commented the same. While the light grey needed just two coats, the dark blue needed three to four coats before it finally looked perfect and consistent.
Finally, quarter rounds were added to the baseboards, hiding the gaps in the flooring and concealing pieces of lego and pencil crayons once and for all. After they were installed and siliconed, the baseboards and trim were once again painted with a white semi-gloss to bring this paint job full circle.
